Well…the best answer to the question about the purpose of discipleship is the answer choice that says discipleship is about helping Christians to get to know Jesus better.
This is important: Discipleship is all about RELATIONSHIP! A more complete answer to describe “discipleship” would talk about how the purpose (agenda) of God the Father is to glorify Himself through the life and death and resurrection and ascension of His Son, Jesus Christ. And “glorify” means that we get to know, that we get to understand, that we desire to emulate the heart and mind of the Lord of all of creation who is our savior, Jesus Christ. In Jesus’s own words (in Matthew 28:19-20), to get to know Him better happens when we identify with Him in baptism, we learn to understand and subscribe to all he taught, and we take great comfort and hope in the fact that He will NEVER leave us! But ultimately, it all comes down to relationship. Building a stronger more fulfilling relationship with Jesus Christ is what discipleship is all about! |
