The second thing that Satan said was, “ Your eyes will be opened.” The implication of this statement is that, “What YOU see is what counts.” What you see with your eyes, what you experience, that is how you will know what truth looks like, as opposed to what? Whatever God says is what truth looks like, right?

And so how many times in your life have you been in a spot where what you are observing and your experiences tell you that this is true, but you look in scripture and it says, “No ,no. The opposite is true”? Your strong inclination is to go with what YOU see and what YOUR experiences are. And you sort of put what God says on a shelf. Often, people have a tendency to say, “Yeah, I get that that is the way it is supposed to be but that is not what makes sense to me in this situation. What I really think is what my experiences and my observations of life tell me.” This is the second thing here that Satan wanted Eve to buy into, and most of us would agree that we have a strong tendency to think this way. It is our fallen nature.
